Every Thursday we throw WhatsNext Lunches in downtown San Jose at our coworking space. Every so often there comes an event that is too awesome not to shout to the sky - and so for this event we are throwing open the invitation to our neighbors. 

This week, Josh Levine and Troy Smothermon from StartOrganic will be giving a talk on how to grow your own garden even in the naturally urban environment of San Jose or San Francisco!

• It's a BYOL (bring your own lunch) kind of event, although rumor has it that there may be some cookies afoot.

We will be talking about all things related to starting your spring garden right.  During our presentation we will go over what crops you should already be growing now, what you can start planting in the next few weeks, and how to make the transition to your spring/summer crops.  This includes companion planting and beneficial insect attractors!   

We'll also talk about the most ideal irrigation types, organic pest control techniques, and different innovations that we use/have created to make sure that our gardens grow successfully without the use of harmful chemicals and pesticides.

Because being 100% ORGANIC is our mantra, we will show you why we shouldn't be using any more chemicals on our crops and the byproduct of shipping food from hundreds of miles away.  It sounds like common sense, but it's amazing the amount of chemicals we as a society use to grow the food that we eat.  We will show what it does to our food, our soil, and our bodies. 

Concluding our talk, we will describe the different garden build/maintenance service plans that we offer, free services we provide to help you grow successfully, and info on our Monthly Produce-Share.  The StartOrganic Monthly Produce-Share is basically a free farmers' market that we want to bring to YOUR community!   Help us localize the foodsource.
